Soon

I love the October night sky.

Ursa Major hangs low and heavy-laden in the north...

...and Orion is slowly making his way home to me.

Dancing where?

Listening to the Footloose soundtrack this morning.

Oh it's awesome, just admit it.

Did you know that it was just a few years ago that I realized that this song was saying, "dancing in the sheets" and not, "dancing in the streets"? Bit
different.

I'm cool like that.

Zumba Hey!

It's official. I was awarded the "worst blogger" award last month. There's no coming back from that.

I just feel like my life is so boring. I'm not interested in it, why would anyone else be ;-)

But something fun I did do about a week ago was go to the annual Zumba Instructors Convention in Orlando!

This was  the first night. They had the most beautiful sunsets there! And I'm a dork, i took pictures of them.

Flew over the Grand Canyon on the way there. Made me really want to go there!

The trip started off really well ;-)

I got Zumbatomic certified with Gina and Jill (zumba superstars)! Now I can teach munchkins!

The first night there was a concert. Daddy Yankee was the headliner (he does a ton of Zumba songs). Vanilla Ice was there too! And Lil Wayne, Mara and Paulina Rubio. So fun.

I did several sessions but Beto (founder of Zumba!) showed up at this one. So fun!
Gara and I after the Warm Up/Cool Down session.

The third night they had a big costume part and concert. It was hilarious. People went all out!
Our group went as the Spice Girls...and we met up with this very tall Ginger Spice :-) And he actually is British, so he wins.

Brittany Spears showed up.

And a Copa dancer

Dude on stilts!

The Pussycat Dolls

Spice Girls and our handsome instructor Camilo.

Some of the Spice Girls with Miss Utah

Spice Girl footwear. I got the best end of this deal!

The fuzzball that was my hair. It is so humid there!!!

Belly dancing session. Possibly my favorite. It was so fun! I want to learn more!

Loki keeping me company at the airport.

And sunset the last night. Amazing again!

It was a fantastic convention. I'm so excited for next year!

New neighbor

Walked out into the garage at my new place last night...almost stepped on this:

I saw it move and managed to miss it...and then ran whimpering in the other direction. I thought it was a scorpion! It's hard to tell in the picture but it was about 2.5 inches long. Eek!

I went back to look (and luckily had my phone) and got a picture. Not a scorpion turns out. No pincers. I have been informed by my dad and brother that it is a Wind Scorpion. Which is not actually a scorpion. I have no clue. Just nod along. They are not poisonous but apparently have a really nasty bite so i'm glad I didn't step on it!

Needless to say, I will be treading more carefully from now on.

Up close and personal

My boss bought a very cool camera. It's new technology and it's pretty amazing. He handed it to me and told me to figure out how to use it :-)

It's called a Lytro Light Field Camera and you can learn about the sciency stuff here http://www.lytro.com/.  I can't really explain it. It somehow captures the entire light field and then you can manipulate the image in very cool ways.

Here are some of my images. I'm just learning, but I think a couple of them turned out pretty cool!

(Click on different parts of the image to see the differences. Whatever you click on will come into focus)

Totally rad to the max!

I was cleaning out my closest on Saturday (I have to move...again) and found some old jewelry from years ago. About 20 years ago.

Do you remember these?
I remember being so excited when I first got one. I mean why wear a boring old watch on your wrist, when you could wear a totally rad watch ON YOUR FINGER!!!! I mean, like, most tubular invention since scrunchies for sure.

Of course I also had four or five Swatch watches on my wrists...

and I'll bet you I still never knew what time it was!

Got to love the 80's :-)

Hopeless Chest #2

Meet Yodeling Bear. My dad went on a trip to Germany...years ago...and brought me back this cute Lederhosen clad bear.

But it gets better.

Ready?

I giggle every time it yodels. Not sure why it makes me so happy...but it does. That is all. :-)

My Hopeless Chest

I have a lovely cedar chest, also known as a Hope Chest. Way, way back in the day a girl would keep all of the things she made/collected for her married life in it. It's where I keep family heirlooms and keepsakes.  My family jokingly refers to it as my Hopeless Chest. Oh so funny guys...

I reorganize it several times a year because, several times a year, I think of something that is in there that I really want and make a huge mess searching for it. Then a few months later, I reorganize it :-) I like to stay on top of these things.

I tore it to pieces last month looking for a book and since I found out that I will have to move soon, I think I will pull everything out and pack it up instead of reorganizing.

So...I'm going to take pictures of all of my wonderful treasures and blog about them (Jayne's idea. Thank you Jayne.)

Here is my cedar chest.

Isn't it pretty? Thank you mom and dad! They gave it to me on my 16th birthday. Or was it 18th...

Never mind.

The thinger on top is from when I lived in Hawaii. They have a unique quilting pattern that they do there. Can you see the waves in the cream color? I bought this square from a very sweet lady with the idea of making a quilt of my own...yeah that was 10 years ago.

And that black thing on top is a very curious kitty who is super talented at getting in the way.

This is the mess:

And this is the first item!

Sticking with the Hawaii theme. I bought this ukelele while living in Hawaii with grand intention of learning to play it. Nope. But it's really cute!

Laterz!

Bit not good...

Maybe I should back up my computer a bit more often...See you all in 11 days...

March 22, 2012

To my dearest Benedict on the occasion of our engagement:

(My dream last night. I need to stop reading/watching British books and movies and the BBC...)

Benedict. I hope, Katie, I shall not offend you if I state quite frankly and openly that you seem to me to be in every way the visible personification of absolute perfection. (flattery will get you anywhere darling)

Katie. I think your frankness does you great credit, Benedict. If you will allow me, I will copy your remarks into my diary. (obviously a dream as I don't ever write in a diary!)

Benedict. Do you really keep a diary? I'd give anything to look at it. May I?

Katie. Oh no. You see, it is simply a girl's record of her own thoughts and impressions, and consequently meant for publication. When it appears in volume form I hope you will order a copy. But pray, Benedict, don't stop. I delight in taking down from dictation. I have reached absolute perfection. You can go on. I am quite ready for more.

Benedict. Katie, ever since I first looked upon your wonderful and incomparable beauty, I have dared to love you wildly, passionately, devotedly, hopelessly. (keep talking baby)

Katie. I don't think that you should tell me that you love me wildly, passionately, devotedly, hopelessly. Hopelessly doesn't seem to make much sense, does it? (because it's not hopeless. Done and done)

Benedict.  I don't care for anybody in the whole world but you. I love you, Katie. You will marry me, won't you?

Katie. You silly boy! Of course. Why, we have been engaged for the last three months. (Hadn't you heard??)

Benedict. For the last three months?

Katie. Yes, it will be exactly three months on Thursday.

Benedict. But how did we become engaged?

Katie. Well, ever since I first saw you, you of course have formed the chief topic of conversation between myself and anyone who will listen. And of course a man who is much talked about is always very attractive. One feels there must be something in him, after all. I daresay it was foolish of me, but I fell in love with you, Benedict.

Benedict. Darling! And when was the engagement actually settled?

Katie. On the 14th of February last. Worn out by your entire ignorance of my existence, I determined to end the matter one way or the other, and after a long struggle with myself I accepted you under this dear old tree here. The next day I bought this little ring in your name, and this is the little bangle with the true lovers knot I promised you always to wear. ("Entire ignorance of my existence." Never let that stop you!)

Benedict. Did I give you this? Its very pretty, isnt it?

Katie. Yes, you've wonderfully good taste, Benedict. It's the excuse I've always given for your leading such a bad life. And this is the box in which I keep all your dear letters.

Benedict. My letters! But, my own sweet Katie, I have never written you any letters.

Katie. You need hardly remind me of that, Benedict. I remember only too well that I was forced to write your letters for you. I wrote always three times a week, and sometimes oftener. (I wrote letters as it's hard to call yourself and pretend it's from someone else...)

Benedict. Oh, do let me read them, Katie?

Katie. Oh, I couldn't possibly. They would make you far too conceited. The three you wrote me after I had broken of the engagement are so beautiful, and so badly spelled, that even now I can hardly read them without crying a little.

Benedict. But was our engagement ever broken off?

Katie. Of course it was. On the 22nd of last March. You can see the entry if you like. To-day I broke off my engagement with Benedict. I feel it is better to do so. The weather still continues charming.

Benedict. But why on earth did you break it of? What had I done? I had done nothing at all. Katie, I am very much hurt indeed to hear you broke it off. Particularly when the weather was so charming.

Katie. It would hardly have been a really serious engagement if it hadnt been broken off at least once. But I forgave you before the week was out.

Benedict: What a perfect angel you are, Katie.

Katie. You dear romantic boy. I hope your hair curls naturally, does it? (very important)

Benedict. Yes, darling, with a little help from others.

Katie. I am so glad.

Benedict. Youll never break of our engagement again, Katie?

Katie. I dont think I could break it off now that I have actually met you. Besides, of course, there is the question of your name.

Benedict. Yes, of course.

Katie. You must not laugh at me, darling, but it had always been a girlish dream of mine to love some one whose name was Benedict. There is something in that name that seems to inspire absolute confidence. I pity any poor married woman whose husband is not called Benedict.

Perhaps next time I will share one of his beautiful letters that he (I) wrote to me. Sigh...

;-)

No clue

I can parallel park like no other. The Tribute, the 4-Runner, the Subaru wagon, my brother's van, trucks...but give me a tiny little Corolla...and this is what you get:

Oh. My.

Aloha Nui Loa

Since Saturday, I have been really missing living in Hawaii. I lived in Laie, it was wonderful.

Here are some of the wonderful things that I miss:

The feeling of being on an island...it's hard to describe.

The constant fragrance of flowers in the air.

The mango tree in the backyard.

The ocean.

Beautiful, friendly people. I fell in love with all the people.

Taking your shoes off on the front porch.

Kissing hello and goodbye.

Uncles and Aunties.

Learning the dances.

Wearing slippers or going barefoot...everyday.

Freezing pineapple and grapes as a snack.

The beautiful mix of cultures.

Curry.

My friend Raj who would crack my neck.

Apple bananas!
They are so good. Small and sweet.

Graduation leis, Hawaiian shirts...and amazing friends!

Swimming with sharks.

Winning a prize for our muscle-bound surfer sandman.

Fun in Waikiki.

Working at the PCC Laua. More amazing friends. Wearing a flower over my ear every day.

More wonderful friends. I really met so many amazing people and made great friends.

The Byodo-in Temple. Gorgeous. Peaceful. Spiritual.

Wonderful Aunties and Uncles.

 The dancing!!!
I knew him. So nice...and...pretty hot. ;-)

Hearing a Haka everyday.

 Shave Ice at Matsumoto's!

Laua food...sigh...Chicken Long Rice. To die for.

Waimea Bay. Heaven on earth.

Such a wonderful place. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to live there for  awhile.
