Favorite Pics

Merry Christmas! I hope you all had wonderful Christmases.

Mine was wonderful. Sadly, I took no pictures. I know. I have an appointment with the doctor already. Something is wrong.

Until my siblings post theirs so i can steal them, i'm imageless.

Okay fine, we know that's not possible. Hold your horses.

This year we decided to each pick our favorite picture that we've taken of each other and give them to each other. It was really fun to go through all of my images and pick out my favorites.

Here are the ones I gave to my siblings and parents.

My mom and dad on the beach in Oregon. Can I just tell you how grateful I am to have parents who love each other, and show it? It's a blessing.

My brother Levi playing with his niece and nephew. They were spying wild beasts.

My nephew LH. He has crazy bright blue eyes. I sepia'd (just made that word up) everything but his eyes.

My brother Zachary and I in Yellowstone. A long, long, long time ago.

My SIL Jayne with baby C. She didn't know I took this so it was a fun surprise.

My beautiful niece EJ. There is a funky app on my iphone that puts a filter on pics. I liked this one. Her hair is just amazing.

My brother and JB the day he was blessed. I just love the connection between them. A daddy and his baby boy.

JB two years later. He was a superhero for Halloween and i just love this pic. It's the ears.

And this one for my Dad. All of his boys.

Try it sometime. Pick out your favorite pics of people and give them to them. It brings up fun memories. Warning: It can get emotional.

It's an inexpensive yet wonderful gift. I printed the pics at Walgreens and then put them in $2 frames from Walmart.

It's raining showers!

I was asked to do yet another bridal shower invitation and it was so fun! I really do love designing these things.

This one was supposed to be art deco themed in purple and black. I will admit that I had to do some 'art deco' research. I really only had some vague notions of what it was.

But I think it turned out pretty darn cool!

What do you think?

O Christmas Tree

On Friday night a group of friends and I made the long trek into town (Salt Lake City) for some big city entertainment. We went to dinner at Buca di Beppo (yum!!) and then headed to Temple Square to see the lights.

We arrived just as they were shutting the gates.

So we went and looked at the nativities and hung out in the Joseph Smith Memorial building instead.

It's been a long time since I've been in there at Christmas time and I forgot how gorgeous their Christmas tree was!

Side note: how cool would it be to have that job? Official Christmas Tree Decorator.

It really got me into the Christmas spirit.

Here are some pics. Hope they make you feel the Christmas spirit too!

These are my friends...they probably won't make you feel the Christmas Spirit :-)

Ex-tra Libris

Ha! Get it? From the last post? I crack myself up.

So I told you these things were addictive. Here are a few more designs i've been working on.

These shots are pulled from pdf's so they aren't showing up perfect. But you get the idea.

Ex Libris

I ordered some really cute bookplates a while ago and finally used them all. I was looking on Etsy for new ones...when it dawned on me that I could just make my own!

Here are my first three designs. What do you think?

They print out on sheets of six but I think I will switch to labels that are just a bit smaller.

They are really fun to make. I may be addicted. Anyone want bookplates?

Long time no see guys!

How's it going? Having a nice holiday season? Excited for Christmas? Have all your shopping done?

Well now that we are all caught up...

I really do miss blogging. I know that my life isn't any busier than most other bloggers I follow. But I just can't same to find time. My two SIL's have kids and husbands and houses to run...and they manage to blog almost every day. I have no excuses, but I'll think of one, don't you worry your pretty little heads about that.

One cause of busyness and stress is over now, a bridal shower for my roommate. It was so fun but I tend to go overboard on laughing family!

I designed these invites and must say that I think they turned out super cute.

It was a lingerie shower and the colors where pink, black and white. The invites mailed in a black envelope.

My amazing mom made these cute centerpieces up.

It was actually pretty simple. Soup and bread bowls, veggie tray and cake pops for desert.

I discovered cake pops on Pioneer Woman and have been wanting to make them for a long time. They are not as easy as I thought...just saying. And I should've practiced prior to taking them out in public. But they were good! I hear. I didn't make gluten-free cake pops so I couldn't try them.

As a side note. It's really difficult to cook and not be able to try things to see if they are okay before giving them away!

I used red velvet and chocolate cake and pink melting chocolate. And pink, black and white sprinkles.

I forgot to take a picture of them arranged but if you look on the table in this pic and can see them sort of arranged and half missing. They looked super cute bitten into as well, with the red velvet cake all moist and yummy inside. Forgot to take a picture of that too. Egads. My brain has completely melted. I need a nice camera by the way. Macro baby.

All in all I think it was a fun party. Ashley got some really cute things.
Darling lingerie...
Towels...from her mother-in-law... And only a few really dirty things *tehe*.

Congratulations Ash!

A product of my upbringing

I grew up listening to classic rock.

My favorite band is Led Zeppelin. I adore AC/DC and the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd.

I could not live with out Simon and Garfunkel, Seals and Crofts or Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Steely Dan, The Moody Blues and Peter Gabriel.

And there was always music on when I was young. My dad likes it loud. I sure hope the neighbors liked classic rock too...

As a result, when in college, when I had to find and recite a poem in class, I knew exactly which poem I was doing. I'd had it memorized for years. I love this poem.

My professor looked at me a bit funny...I think he was expecting Tennyson or Poe.

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion.

Gold star for whomever can tell the class where this is from :-)

Yesterday just came on and I started crying. The holidays destroy my emotional control. Sigh.

I'm ready to hibernate

I've already put on my winter weight in preparation...

This is the forecast. Blizzard warning!

They closed all the schools in town. Which is huge here. They never close the schools. And we just got a call from the county sheriff. A state of snow emergency has been declared.

Egads people.

I'm ready to head home, make some hot cocoa and burrow in for the night!

Looks like somebody has a case of the Mondays.

It's a beautiful morning. It' snowing steadily and it's peaceful and quiet. Just sitting at the computer, talking to Bear. Who, by the way, is very hard to take pictures of. She always looks like a black blob. She is actually looking at the camera in this shot. Oh well.

Last night the power went out, it was cold.

This was my drive to church yesterday. So much snow!

Then this morning I went out to warm up the truck and when i got out to scrape the locked.

On the bright side i got to test my AAA for the first time. The nice man just came and unlocked it.

Time for work I guess...

Point to this meaningless steam of consciousness is good. Despite all the things that happen. Have a great day!

We live in a glorious age...

An age of amazing inventions. Robots and the Large Hadron Collider. Computers in the palm of your hand and Goody Spin Pins.

These things are amazing. I'm smitten. I'm in deep smit.

My question is why has it taken to long to think them up?

I have big, crazy, curly hair and trying to put it in a bun takes something along the lines of a gross weight of steel bobby pins.

No longer!!!

You just twist your hair into a bun and then spin these two suckers in and, get this, it holds! I know. Miracle.

If you have long hair, give these a try. You won't be sorry.

I'm five

Mott's has this new juice out called Mott's Medleys. It has two total fruit and veggie servings magically hidden in every glass! I like the word magically.

So...I have resorted to tricking myself into eating vegetables.

This is the ad for Mott's:

We all know getting kids to eat healthy can be tough, but Mott's has found a way for kids to get their fruits And veggies that will have everybody smiling

  • New Mott’s Medleys looks and tastes just like the Mott’s juice kids already love, but has two total fruit and veggie servings magically hidden in every 8oz glass
  • Mott’s Medleys is 100% Juice and has 100% DV Vitamin C
  • Mott’s Medleys is a good source of Vitamin E and Magnesium

I think they need change it to "kids and adults to eat healthy..."

It really is tasty.

And I'm pathetic...

Pretty much the worst wound ever

Under this unassuming band aid, lies the greatest wound ever.

It was late monday night and I somehow managed to jamb a splinter (giant stick!) under my fingernail. It felt really good. It felt so good that I decided to try and dig around in there with tweezers to see if I could make it feel even better...

I'm really good at what i do, it felt SOOO much better when i was done...yeah.

I'm allergic to triple antibiotic ointment so I didn't put anything on it. So it was totally infected. I was hoping it would just miraculously heal overnight. It didn't. The age of miracles...may be over. Just saying.

I kept hoping for a miracle all day Tuesday, putting off the embarrassment of going to the doctor.

My faith has been shaken.

I had to go to the doctor today.

For a splinter.

The nurse at the front desk laughed at me.

She asked why i was there and i had to say 'I have a splinter"

She asked for my name and I asked if I could just be anonymous.

She said no. Some people should not be in a compassionate service field.

So she took me back to...the trauma center! She said the light was better in there. I was sitting in the trauma center...for a splinter.

The doctor came in and said that she needed to dig around in there and get the chunks of wood out. Does the thought of digging around under your fingernail make you queasy? Me too. She dug around for awhile but couldn't get deep enough and i was squirming so much she was having trouble holding my hand down. Help me Rhonda.

She decided to numb my finger, i thought that was a great idea.

Turns out getting two shots of numbing agent in your finger hurts a lot too. Do you see the blue spots? Those are bruises from the numbing...not sure why that happened.

To make a long story...even longer, she cut a good sized chunk of my nail off and cleaned the splinter out.

I still can't believe I went to the doctor for a splinter.

Cute eh?

Pansy to the max

For a church activity on Monday night we decorated pumpkins for kids at the local hospital.

I had the brilliant idea of making my pumpkin a mummy...

It turned out a bit creepier than I had imagined...I actually had a hard time looking at it after I was done.

I hope the kids aren't total pansy's like me.

Creature Feature

This one time...a week ago, I went to the beach.

I was strolling along the shore, enjoying the feel of the sand in between my toes and the waves crashing in trying to suck me out into the abyss...when suddenly a strange creature washed up right in front of me.

Sadly. My first thought upon seeing him was "YUM!". I know. I have issues.

I got over the initial urge to eat him, it was really cool to see a crab up close.

Their little faces are really cool.

He was struggling in the surf so eventually we helped him out a bit and he escaped.

Late that night I paid $19 a lb to eat...crab.
