Merry Christmas!

Our family has a wonderful Christmas this year. It was so nice to have everyone together. We had a lot of fun watching Emmy tear into presents. She loves to unwrap things. Grandpa scored big with a front-end loader, she loves it. Also a fish tank from Grandma that she was glued to.

Wisdom Teeth. Ugh.

I had to have my wisdom teeth out and it was super fun. I actually still have one more in there but my dentist wants to wait for it to move up on its own a bit more. Yeah. Because of my "advanced age" it was a lot harder on me. It took quite awhile to recover. I went in early to pre-medicate and then he numbed my mouth and i got the gas. I made a complete fool of myself! These are my teeth (below). We decided that they are boy and girl twins. One is crossing her legs and the other has a penis. I announced the fact that my tooth had a penis to the entire office. It was great.

Beautiful John :-)

John K. is doing Gap ads. Ahhhhh.

Thanksgiving in Oregon!

So on Tuesday my friend John called and asked if i wanted to drive to Oregon and I said yes! I know, very spontaneous for me eh? It was really fun. It was so nice to spend Thanksgiving with my Oregon family. Auntie Sue and I drove down to Eugene and spent the day with Chandra and Eric. We went to their friends for dinner and Chan made what might be the best turkey i've ever eaten. We had smashed potatoes, wonderful bread, stuffing and lots of other delicious things. We then went back to Chan and Eric's house for a rousing game of Scrabble. Did you know that 'moated' and 'ting' are words? They are.

The rest of the time was spent lounging about Laila and Trent's house and playing with my cousin Lucy. Laila is so beautiful and her stomach is starting to get big. I think it's a boy. Aunt Sue and i went to the coast on Saturday and it was soooo wonderful. I am a bit obsessed with the ocean, if you can't tell by the number of pics i took. We went to a great beach where we could drive on the sand. I was nervous, i thought my car would sink, but it didn't :-)

The drive was great and John and i are still friends, it's a miracle! We listened to some good books on CD and reaffirmed that Hemingway is depressing and random. The Anne Rice was good. The Virgina Wolfe was...different.

We made a quick stop at Multnomah Falls, it was really cold.

This is how John spent the entire trip :-) Except for when he was killing my car in the middle of intersections.

Heathen's Baby Shower!

I went to my very good friends Heathen's baby shower on Saturday and it was so wonderful to see her! She is so stinkin cute and i got to feel Gus move, it was great. It was surreal to see her nine months along! Her stomach seemed fake. She is still just as skinny as always but with a huge bump on her stomach :-) We talked about Camp Loll and the old days before anyone was married and having babies. Here are some pics from our camp days and from the shower. I guess we really haven't changed that much.

What html color are you?

This is a pretty cool quiz (if you're a code geek like me!). More in-depth than most.
you are paleturquoise
#AFEEEE

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is low - You stay out of stressful situations and advise others to do the same.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

Is there a way to live in both of these places at once?

Being Fully Awake

Note: cross-posted from my soloblog

Tonite I watched an interview of housewife-turned-Buddhist-nun Pema Chodron with some friends. Chodron spoke about many common Buddhist concepts, with her own unique spin on the issues of pain and suffering and the goal to be 'fully awake.'

For me, the most provocative quotation from the program was this one:
"We are all capable of becoming fundamentalists because we get addicted to other people's wrongness."

She spoke at length about how this addiction, or 'getting hooked' as she calls it, sets off a chain reaction of suffering. By removing ourselves from the addictive cycle we can have more peace and compassion.

I love that idea. I am certainly guilty of being addicted to other people's wrongness just as I am guilty of being addicted to my own rightness. I recognize that this is a very rigid way to live, but it is so human...sigh.

What I really want...to see the divine in each person I meet and not to feel anger and self-righteousness when someone believes differently than I do. So I will keep trying....
